Rep. Watson Coleman Celebrates $15 Million HUD Grant for Trenton Housing Authority
Today, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) joined a press conference hosted by the Trenton Housing Authority celebrating the awarding of a $15 million grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to support affordable housing in Trenton.
Rep. Watson Coleman, the only representative from New Jersey on the House Appropriations Committee, celebrated the grant with HUD Assistant Secretary Dr. Kimberly McClain, and Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora.
“I know Assistant Secretary McClain, Mayor Gusciora, and the Biden-Harris administration share my belief that safe and stable housing is essential to healthy communities,” said Rep. Watson Coleman. “A lack of stable housing is one of the biggest impediments to those seeking to get ahead. That’s why I am so grateful to have partners like Assistant Secretary McClain and Mayor Gusciora, who fight hardest for those who need it most. I know this grant will have a real, positive impact in our community, and will help lift up Trentonians who just need a little support. I am so grateful to the Biden-Harris administration for making this investment possible.”
“This is great news for the Capital City,” said Mayor Gusciora. “This grant will be a catalyst for positive change in the North Ward Battle Monument neighborhood. It will not only provide better housing options, but also improve the overall quality of life for our residents. By investing in our communities, we are fostering an environment where economic development can thrive and create opportunities for all Trentonians. We are grateful to the Biden Administration for recognizing the potential of Trenton and supporting our efforts to build a brighter future for our city.”
The $15 million grant is part of a larger $325 million investment by the Biden-Harris administration to support the Housing Choice Voucher program across seven communities nationwide. HUD’s Housing Choice Voucher program is the largest and most effective affordable housing support initiative in the country.
